Eagle Ridge Farm would like to extend our congratulations to Jill and Gary Carter of Golden Valley, Arizona on their purchase of “A Legendary Dream”. Xena or “Xener Beaner” as she was affectionately called at home, is a very sweet loving filly.
As all of our babies, Xena really doesn’t know she’s a horse! She thinks she is human and desires more than anything else to be loved by humans! As a foal she spent more time with us when we were in the pasture, than with her mom. Mom also enjoyed the built-in babysitting opportunities we provided to enjoy grazing away from her baby! In those early days, we were already teaching Xena to park and stand still. Throwing tarps on her back, balancing road cones on her back and playing fetch with a garbage bag full of pop cans were also part of the routine. We always got a kick out of waiting for a passing car to come into view and then at that moment, tossing the bag of cans far into the pasture and waiting for Xena to retrieve it, then watching the passing motorists as they watched in disbelief until they passed out of sight. Sometimes they would return to make sure they saw what they thought they saw and sometimes not. Other times I suspect Xena thinks of herself as a dog! Eagerly licking bare legs in shorts and untying shoe strings, much to her victims chagrin.
I’ll admit a slight tinge of disappointment at not seeing Xena in the show ring. After seeing her under saddle for the last time, I felt she showed great promise as a Lite Shod prospect. After only 2 months under saddle, she was seemingly “clicking in” faster to that steady head shake than even her sister, Strollin’ Gold Coin had. Darn! It would have been something to see and I would have been so proud….
Jill paid us a very nice compliment when she called to say Xena had arrived. She said, “When we decided to pare down our horses and get to just 2 nice trail horses, we knew we wanted an Eagle Ridge Farm-grown horse.” That makes us feel mighty proud. Jill and Gary came and saw Xena the day she was born and have watched her grow and develop into the mare she is now. Sal and I both know Jill and Gary would love to have Dream, (Xena’s and Amber’s mom) but we’re just not quite ready to part with her yet! Start saving your “centavos” Jill!
We both agree that we couldn’t ask for a better home for Xena. Keep an eye out on the horizon for a big cloud of dust, as most likely someday one or both of us will show up to kiss our baby’s muzzle! Congratulations again!
We anxiously await more pictures....
