Allan sired his most important get between
1903 when he became the property of James Brantley and 1910, the year he died at
the farm of Albert Dement. These two men had a vision of a smooth gaited
plantation horse. In the process of fulfilling their dream, they discovered a
gene that produced the natural ability of a running walk. This natural ability
is what separates the Tennessee Walking Horse from all other breeds..
As in all aspects of life, there are those
that tend to abuse in order to gain. Abuse done by those proclaiming to love the
breed. In less than a hundred years the walking horse has taken a journey
leading to its present day. During the evolution of this breed, we of greedy
minds and poor of vision have deliberately enforced inhumane practices in order
to produce a show horse with the high-stepping gaits, and in the process of this
loss of vision, we have in some cases bred this natural ability out.
We at Eagle Ridge Farm, believe it’s time
for a binding together of owners, trainers, exhibitors, and lovers of the
Tennessee Walking Horse. We must all start working together in order to restore
the glory this most noble animal deserves. Breeders must consider what would
make the best running walk rather than what would look good on
"papers". Trainers and exhibitors must return to a more humane way of
exhibiting and promoting the breed.
We wholeheartedly support all efforts being
put forth to stop the inhumane treatment of this kind, noble and trusting
animal. Our breeding efforts are to once again bring to the fore front the
"natural abilities" this breed once possessed. Natural abilities
without the aid of mechanical devises and the soring practices that others
within our industry continue to use and try to disguise.
We at Eagle Ridge Farm, strive yearly to
breed the best to the best. Not only pedigree to pedigree but ability to
ability. Striving to restore the Tennessee Walking Horse back to its original
glory that its forefathers would be proud to call their creation thereby
permitting him to earn his rightful place in the sun.
